New Delhi, Jan 4: The CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday alleged that the BJP government in Maharashtra is attempting to blame Dalit community for the violence in the state.
In a series of tweets Mr Yechury said attempts to blame Dalit community for speaking up reflect the RSS-BJP’s core beliefs of asserting an old and oppressive social order.
“Attempts to blame the historically oppressed sections of our society for speaking up, reflect the core beliefs of the BJP-RSS, of asserting an old and oppressive social order”, he said.
The CPI(M) leader also criticised the BJP government for its silence on the attack against Dalits in Maharashtra and asked whether the BJP government is considering Dalits to be a part of India or not.
“Does the BJP govt consider Dalits to be a part of India or not? Or are they excluded from being Indian in its definition? Only that view explains its silence on what is happening in Maharashtra”, Mr Yechury said.
He also said the Sangh Parivar is opposing the idea of equality and the struggle will continue to change the system.
“As Dr Ambedkar said, one person is equal to one vote and one vote equal to one value. But until each citizen does not equal the same value, in socio-economic terms, the struggle must continue. It is this equality that Sangh ideology is opposed to” Mr Yechury tweeted.
On January 1, attacks on Dalit groups while celebrating the bicentenary of the Bhima-Koregaon battle in Pune allegedly by organisations related to Sangh Parivar have triggered protests in the state. UNI
