Kolkata, Jan 20: South 24 Parganas district administration carried out a mega clean-up mission
post Ganga Sagar Mela.
Sagartat, Benuban, Kochuberia, Kakdwip Lot-8, Namkhana and
other areas were cleaned up as part of this mission.
Thousands of people including officials of district administration, police, Sagar Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, NGOs took part in this clean-up. Officials who were in-charge of safety and security of pilgrims were seen with brooms cleaning up fair grounds.
The DM of South 24 Parganas, local MLA Bankim Hazra, Additional DM, and other officials were present at fair grounds for cleaning.
This year 40 lakh pilgrims took the holy dip at Ganga Sagar on Makar Sankranti. Several steps were taken by the West Bengal Government for smooth running of the fair. UNI
