Mahapanchayat in Nandan gram in Buxar in Bihar which was the scene of stone
pelting on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cavalcade on January 12, following by
police action against the accused including women.
The mahapanchayat will be held at Nandan gram in Dumraon
block on January 31.Some of the leaders of the erstwhile mahagathbandhan in Bihar including Rashtriya Lok Dal, and Communist Party of India are expected to participate. Other parties including the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal have also been sounded to come on board.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, rebel Janata Dal (United) leader Ali Anwar Ansari sought a probe by a sitting High Court judge into alleged police action against Dalit families who were accused of pelting stones on Mr. Kumar’s cavalcade during his Vikas Samiksha Yatra.
Mr. Ansari said Nandan gram has about 150 families including Dalits and Mahadalits. On the day some of them may have thrown mud balls on some cars following the Chief Minister’s vehicle but the next day police took stern action. They arrested 29 people including 10 women and registered five FIRs against 100 persons, he said.
Mr. Ansari demanded that all the arrested persons be released and the cases filed against the inhabitants of Nandan gram be withdrawn.
On January 12, Mr. Nitish Kumar addressed a public meeting in Dumraon block and said people should not be perturbed or mislead over such minor happenings.
Both, Mr. Yadav and Mr. Ansari, who were JD (U) Rajya Sabha members were recently disqualified from their membership after the party moved against them. UNI
