Guwahati, Feb 15: A helicopter crashed in a remote sand-bar in Majuli island of eastern Assam this afternoon.
Official sources from Majuli confirmed that the copter crashed in Bardua Chapori, a remote part of the island-district, at around 1300 hours today.
Local people saw the aircraft going up in flames in the sky and crashing to the ground.
The details of the helicopter or its passengers are not known yet.
The sources added that a rescue team from Air Force base in neighbouring Jorhat has already reached the spot, while a police rescue team of Majuli district administration is proceeding to the spot on foot. UNI
