New Delhi, Feb 14: President of Iran Dr Hassan Rouhani will pay a three-day state visit to India at the invitation of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi from February 15-17.
President Rouhani will be accorded a ceremonial reception on February 17. He will have meetings with the President Ramnath Kovind and Mr Modi, according to a release by the Ministry of External Affairs here on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that Prime Minister Modi had paid an official visit to Iran in May 2016. During President Rouhani’s visit, both sides would review the progress achieved in bilateral relations and also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Besides his official engagements in Delhi, President Rouhani will also visit Hyderabad.
India and Iran have collaborated on key projects, the most crucial being the Chabahar port in Southeastern Iran that was opened in December. The port has been touted as a way for India to establish trade routes that bypass Pakistan.
India has been a key purchaser of Iranian oil and gas, and maintained trade ties even as international sanctions were imposed on Iran over its nuclear programme between 2012 and 2016. UNI
