New Delhi, Feb 27: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday sought higher funding for India from
the Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and said that
that AIIB would play an important role in development of Infrastructure in the
country.
Delivering the Inaugural address at the Curtain Raiser
Ceremony of the 3rd Annual meeting of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in
New Delhi, Mr jaitley said that multilateral lending is needed to bridge the
infrastructure gap in the Asian region.
He said, “Development of Infrastructure is at the centre stage & one of the highest priorities of the present Government especially development of rural infrastructure, in order to improve the lives of people at large.
He also unveiled the Logo &Theme of the 3rd Annual Meeting of AIIB along with Mr Jin Liqun, President, AIIB and said that the government gives top priority to infrastructure development, especially in the rural area.
India is hosting 3rd Annual Meeting of AIIB in Mumbai on 25-26th June. AIIB, which has 84 members, started functioning in 2016. It is will hold its third annual meeting in Mumbai on June 25-26 and will be preceded by events in 8 cities.
Mr Jaitley said, “With curtain raiser today and eight run up events, we are geared up to bring together over 3000 participants to help Asian countries find solutions for infrastructure deficit to make 21st century Asia’s century.”
AIIB has in the past 2 years approved five projects in India envisaging total commitment of more than one billion dollar and has a pipeline of 12 projects involving assistance of 3.5 billion dollar. UNI
