Kolkata, Feb 17: The latest social initiative of Kolkata Police is Damini, through which girls
from economically challenged background are getting coaching in football, to
bring them into the mainstream.
The project, launched recently, is the first time that
Kolkata Police has taken such an initiative.
It will be undertaken with the help of the non-profit-making organisation, Shreeja India.
The programme has been designed to inculcate the spirit of confidence and teamwork among girls so that they can face the world with self-respect and dignity.
They learn personal, professional and moral values that they can carry in other aspects of lives. They develop friendship and learn to respect coaches, staff, teammates, opponents and the referee.
Three football coaching sessions will be organised per week at each of five zones – east, west, north, south and central.
Around 50 girls between 10 and 16 years will be trained per zone.
Each session will last for two hours. UNI
