New Delhi, Feb 27: The Maldivian Coast Guard (MCG) on Tuesday declined Indian Navy’s offer to
participate in Milan, a multilateral naval exercise which is scheduled to take
place from March 6-13 in Port Blair.
Talking to reporters here, Indian Navy Chief
Admiral Sunil Lanba said, 'We had invited Maldives to participate in Milan but
they have declined. They have given no reasons.'
It is being believed that the Island nation might have taken this decision due to ongoing Constitutional crisis after Maldives President Abdulla Yameen imposed state of Emergency.
The Navy Chief also said, 'So far, 16 nations have confirmed their participation in the exercise.'
The exercise was started in 1995 with other four littoral Navies under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command.
The Navies of Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand participated in its inaugural edition. UNI
