New Delhi, Feb 28: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday set up three committees for the
coming plenary session of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
According to AICC general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi,
'Congress president Rahul Gandhi has constituted the Organising Committee, the
Drafting Committee and its four sub groups and a Constitution Amendment
Committee for the coming plenary session of the Indian National Congress.'
The Organising Committee, chaired by veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora will have Mr Oscar Fernandes as its convenor. Its members include all the general secretaries and incharges of states. It also includes nine special invitees including Mr Ahmed Patel, Ms Sheila Dikshit, Mr Ajay Maken and Ms Sharmishtha Mukherjee.
The Drafting Committee will be chaired by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and will be convened by Mr Mukul Wasnik.
The 44-member committees include senior party leaders A K Antony, P Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ahmed Patel, Meira Kumar, Amarinder Singh, Ashok Gehlot, Kamal Nath, Veerappa Moily, Janardhan Dwivedi, Anand Sharma and Kapil Sibal.
The committee will have four sub groups - for political affairs, economic affairs, international affairs and for Agriculture, Employment and Poverty alleviation.
The 25-member sub group for political affairs will be chaired by Mr Antony and have Kumari Selja as convenor while former Finance minister P Chidambaram will chair the sub group on economic affairs which will be convened by Mr Jairam Ramesh.
The sub group on international affairs will be chaired by Anand Sharma and will be convened by Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The fourth sub group on Agriculture, employment and poverty alleviation will be chaired by former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and will have Ms Meenakshi Natarajan as its convenor.
The Constitutional Amendment committee will be chaired by Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and will be convened by Janardhan Dwivedi.
The plenary session of the AICC is scheduled to be held from March 16 to 18 in Delhi. UNI
