New Delhi, Feb 14: Railways is gearing up to fill about 63,000 vacancies in Group -D cadre in level-1 pay scale, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Wednesday.
Mr Goyal said a notification for this has already been issued by his Ministry. 
Those who have been undergoing training in different short term apprentice courses run by the Railways, ITI trained and high school pass outs are eligible to apply for these posts, the Ministry notification said. 
The last date for application was March 12, 2018.
According to sources, priority would be given to those trainees (apprentice) who were already training in different units of the Railways.
According to sources, while making a major contribution to the Skill India initiative, the Ministry was imparting training in various fields like fitter, turner, machine welder, painter, carpenter, electrician, refrigerator and AC mechanic and motor vehicle mechanic to trainees.
The Ministry has set a target to train 30,000 apprentices in 16 zonal units and seven production units.
According to sources, during the period 2017-18, 26,000 apprentices would be imparted training.
For the 12,000 posts in the Railways, those apprentices who have recieved training from Railway establishments would be given priority.
This arrangement has been done under the recent amendments in the Apprentices Act 1961.
They said, Railways considers skill development of labour force as important for its human resource development. They believe that it was not enough to train the labour force from outside, but they should be trained at the place where they work. UNI
