Capacity Building Workshop on Disaster Management held at Doda

DODA, March 20: District Disaster Management Authority today organized ‘One Day Capacity Building Workshop on Disaster Management’ in collaboration with State Disaster Management Authority (JKSDMA), here today.

District Development Commissioner, Bhawani Rakwal was chief guest on the occasion whereas SSP, Mohammad Shabir was guest of honour.

 ADDC, Mohammad Hanief Malik, ADC, Pawan Kumar, ACR, Tariq Hussain Naik, CMO, ARTO, DSWO, Tehsildar, Doda/Kishtwar, district officers besides representatives of SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Health, Red Cross Society, Police, Anganwadi/Asha Workers, VLWs, Chenab Rescuers, Doda Development Front and a large gathering of school students from the schools and community members were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner Bhawani Rakwal said that the rod accidents are the main manifestation of human made disasters and concrete efforts from all stakeholders are required to mitigate the effects of these disasters.  

He further stressed on Traffic Police, ARTOs and Medical Officers to be more vigilant and assured all the possible help to the organizations involved with Disaster Management.

SSP Mohd Shabir stressed upon carrying out such programmes by and large involving Police, Civil Administration, Volunteers/NGOs and general public to aware the masses regarding the disasters and their management.

The District Disaster Management Professional Doda/Kishtwar, Ashiq Hussain Rather stressed on the need for Capacity Building Workshops as the state is vulnerable to many natural and man-made disasters. During debate competition and skits students highlighted their viewpoints regarding the Disasters and their management.

 The programme also witnessed demonstration of practical knowledge on various aspects of disaster management put forward by resource persons from the Army, SDRF/F&ES/Health/RCS/NGOs.

The training programme also included the first aid training, search and rescue, fire fighting imparted by SDRF and Army, Search and Rescue by Fire & Emergency Services, SDRF and Army. The Capacity Building training was followed by Mock Exercise jointly carried out by Medical/F&ES/SDRF/Army/RCS teams.
