Kolkata, Mar 15: Services of Circular train of Eastern Railway were today disrupted after a
major fire in a chemical storage blocked traffic at Armenian Ghat area in the
eastern part of the Ganges.
The chemical store was located near the
East-West Metro project disrupting traffic of the Cirficular trains on the side
of eastern part of Ganga.
Some 18-20 fire fighting engines have been pressed into service to douse the flames, The sky around the ghat covered with thick black smoke preventing the fire fighters from moving the source of fire.
However, there had been no report of any casualty so far in the fire, which destroyed many unauthorised shanties.
In another fire nearly half-dozen sabji shops were reduced to ashes at Kalindi market under South Dum Dum municipality.
Police said the fire was first noticed around 0200 hours and before two fire fighting arrived the shop was destroyed with stocks.
The fire at Kalindi, exactly two weeks after a fish market was destroyed at the same place at same time, the shop keepers said. UNI
