Agartala, Mar 15: With the continuing search operation in different branch organisation offices of CPI-M and subsequent recovery of sharp cutters, sticks and old aged weapons following the demand of ruling BJP, CPI-M leaders moved to Director General of Police (DGP) last night demanding adequate security for the protection of their party offices across the state.
In a memorandum signed by senior CPI-M leader and former Health minister Badal Choudhury, CPI-M state spokesperson Goutam Das, former MP Narayan Kar and MP Sankar Prasad Datta mentioned that running party offices is the constitutional and democratic right and it is the duty of police authority to protect the democratic activities of political parties, including functioning of their office.
The CPI-M leaders alleged that the police are conducting raid and searches in the CPI-M and trade union offices at the behest of new ruling party of the state.
In a democracy, it is not at all acceptable. They also alleged that since declaration of election results so far, 96 CPI-M offices were burnt down.
As many as 367 party offices were vandalized and looted, 233 party offices were occupied by BJP supporters, 1829 houses of CPI-M workers and supporters were raided, looted and vandalized, 217 houses were burnt, 442 shops were gutted, the memorandum stated.
They demanded DGP to stop raid and search of CPI-M offices and trade union offices and ensure protection of the leaders, workers and supporter of their party who had to leave their places of residence due to threat by BJP workers.
However, BJP Vice President Subal Bhowmik made a sharp reaction over the allegations and stated that BJP did not have any role in such mischievous activities. Neither party indulged any such act nor support anybody to continue do so. The Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on the very first day made it clear to police that criminal should be dealt with in iron hand.
“I also request police to take action against the law breakers and criminals do not have any political colour. But I am reiterating again, BJP is no way involved in such activities. It might be the mischief done by CPI-M cadres of their previous rivalry and BJP is being blamed motivated way,” Mr Bhowmik added. UNI
