Agartala, March 2: A pal of gloom descended
over leftist camp following sudden demise of Cooperative and Fishery Minister
and CPM nominee in Krishanpur assembly constituency of Khowai under West
Tripura Khagendra Jamatia this morning in AIIMS New Delhi.
Jamatia was 64 yrs and have been suffering from high diabetic
and related other diseases.
He survived by his wife, sons and daughters besides, several other relatives.
He joined in CPI-M party after 1983 assembly elections. He won the seat since 1998 and this time also Khagendra Jamatia was landed by the party. Before joining to CPM, Khagendra Jamatia was self-styled area commander in South Tripura of insurgent outfit All Tripura Peoples’ Liberation Organisation (ATPLO).
Before filing the nomination, he fell ill and admitted to hospital but could not campaign. A week ago he was shifted to AIIMS for better treatment and he was responding well to the treatment. Suddenly, Jamatia was shifted to ventilation two days ago and in the morning he expired, said CPI-M state secretary Bijan Dhar.
His body will bring to the state in the afternoon and he will be cremated at his village with full state respect. The body will be taken to secretariat and assembly house where he will be paid tribute followed by state committee office here.
The party has announced three days state mourn over the death of Khagendra Jamatia. The party will participate in the process of counting tomorrow as usual but there will not be any celebration, Dhar stated.
Khagendra Jamatia is the second CPM nominee of Tripura who died during the election. Earlier, a week ago of election, CPM nominee Ramendra Chandra Debbarma of Charilam tribal reserved constituency was died in sudden cardiac arrest.
Governor Tathagata Roy, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, BJP state president Biplab Deb and Congress president Birjit Sinha expressed deep condolence to the bereaved family and paid tribute to the departed soul. UNI
