Kolkata, Apr 10: Nearly a 100 ft cemented bridge connecting many villages on either side of Kana
Damodar river at Jagatballavpur collapsed like a house of cards in the
neighbouring Howrah district today.
However, there had been no casualty or injury in
the collapse, which occurred at around 0600 hours.
Local people, who witnessed the falling of the concrete bridge, about 15 ft wide, said illegal sand mining in the river bed caused erosion of the base and foundation, triggering the collapse of the old bridge. UNI
