‘Board
to act as main assistance dispenser for workers’
JAMMU, APRIL 5: Minister for Finance, Education, Labour and
Employment Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today chaired the maiden meeting of
Jammu & Kashmir Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board
(JKBOCWWB). and mandated a slew of roles to the panel for welfare of
unorganized sector workers.
The
Board members, MLA Altaf Ahmed Wani, MLA Rajiv Jastrotia besides others
including those representing state Government, unorganized workers, unorganized
sector employers and eminent persons from civil society attended the meeting.
The participants deliberated on range of proposals
moved for establishing the role and activities of the board towards fulfillment
of its mandate.
The Minister said that the government is for making
the board as major relief provider for the workers associated with the unorganized
sector. He asked the members to meet on regular intervals to review and assess
the achievements of the board towards meeting the welfare and aspirations of
this neglected class of workers - a cause which has remained unattended so far.
He
stressed on the need to synergizing the efforts of all members representing
varied section of society to activate the prestigious panel. “There
is a need to make the board a vibrant institution to enable it to meet its role
of providing succor to the targeted lot,” the Minister
asserted.
Meanwhile, the Minister approved around 7 agenda
proposals including constitution of a committee comprising functionaries of
finance, Labour and employment, Education, Technical Education and Social
Welfare Departments to take holistic view of the available schemes and to
formulate comprehensive scheme for unorganized workers.
The
meeting also approved the proposal to notify the District Employment Centres as
Facilitation Centres for registration of these workers, creation
of web portal for registration and launching massive campaign to create
awareness about registration and welfare schemes.
