BUDGAM, APRIL 9: Glowing tributes were paid today
to eminent poet Ghulam Ahmad Mahjoor on his 66th death anniversary during a
function held at Boys High School Paller in Budgam.
Observing it as Mahjoor day, a daylong function was
organized by Chief Education Office Budgam in collaboration with District
Information Centre Budgam, JKAAC&L and CEEO India.
Chief Education Officer Budgam, Rouf Ahmad Shahmiri
presided over the function, where teachers and students from different schools
threw light on life and poetry of Mahjoor.
While paying rich tribute to the poet, participants
termed poetry of Mahjoor as great contribution to the Kashmiri language.
Speakers said Mahjoor’s
contribution enriched not only the Kashmiri language, but it also depicts
picture of Kashmiri culture.
Terming Mahjoor as poet of masses, speakers said
Mahjoor would forever remain alive in minds of people for representing
Kashmiris through his revolutionary poetry.
Meanwhile, trophies were distributed among the
first three winners of musical instrument play competition held on the
occasion.
Paying glowing tributes to the eminent poet, CEO lauded
organizers for holding the function to remember the legendary poet.
A similar function “Youm-i-
Mahjoor” was celebrated at Town Hall in Budgam, where
eminent poets and poetesses read out and recited the poetry of Manjoor to pay
him tributes.
The function was organized by Bargi
Chinar Mahjoor Cultural Origination Arigam.
Tehsildar Khansaheb presided over the function
while as Majeed Masroor, Abdul Ahad Gulshan, Mohammad ShafiShaheen, Aziz
Sidiquee, Rehana Kounsar, Syed Fida, Assadullah Assad and FehmeedaSopori were
among other prominent poets and poetesses who presented their poetry to
remember the legendary poet on his 66thdeath anniversary.
