Kolkata, Apr 12: Calcutta High Court today stayed all election process for Panchayet poll until
April 16.
The High Court also directed the State Election
Commission to furnish details as to what action it has taken to ensure all intended
candidates can file nomination papers safely.
The HC also asked the State Election Commission counsels what the Commission did on April 10 up to 1500 hours when the time for filing of nomination was extended for a day and how many candidates had intended to file nominations.
The Opposition parties had moved to the Election Commission after reports of violence during nomination filing from April 2 to 9.
The Commission by an order on April 9 evening had extended it to April 10 from 1100 to 1500 hours for filing the nomination papers.
But the Commission in the morning of April 10 withdrew its order, citing legal complication. UNI
