KUPWARA, APRIL 09: District Administration Kupwara in collaboration with Education Department organised a programme in Town Hall Kupwara to commemorate 66th death anniversary of eminent poet Ghulam Ahmad Mahjoor Mahjoor.
The programme was attended by DC Kupwara Khalid Jahangir, SSP, ACR, CEO, teachers and a huge gathering of students from various educational institutions.
Speakers at the occasion highlighted different aspects of Mehjoors life and poetry.  
Speaking on the occasion, DC highlighted the significance of Mehjoor's notable works and his patriotic verses that touch every cord of our conscience even today.
"Mehjoor was a poet par excellent for his contribution to every walk of Kashmiri life. He has played a huge role in enriching literary heritage, language and made people cherish our cultural ethos. He had love and compassion for humanity. His belief in unity, religious harmony and fellow feeling made his message more appealing. The message through his poetry earned him the title of Poet of New Kashmir", said DC.
Mehjoors songs presented by the students were warmly received and highly appreciated by the audience.
Speakers also highlighted the contribution of Mehjoor in popularising Kashmiri verse and in the larger perspective Kashmiri language.
