UDHAMPUR, APRIL 26-: As a part of the celebration of ongoing 29th
National Road Safety Week, an orientation cum awareness camp was organized by
the Motor Vehicle Department, (MVD), in collaboration with transport union
Udhampur in the Conference Hall of DC Office Complex Udhampur here today.
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur
Ravinder Kumar who is also the chairman of District Road Safety Committee,
Udhampur was the chief guest while Senior Superintendent of Police Rayees Bhat
was the guest of honour on the occasion.
More than 150 passenger vehicles drivers and
conductors of the district including operators of commercial vehicles
participated in the awareness programme.
While addressing the camp, DC said that Drivers and
Conductors is the part and parcel of our society. He sought cooperation of
drivers and conductors in spreading the message of road safety and in making
the road safety week meaningful. He said that the overloading, rash and
negligent driving and over speeding, use of mobile phone while driving the
vehicle are main causes of road accidents. He asked the drivers and conductors
to observe the traffic rules.
SSP Udhampur also
spoke on the occasion and advised the drivers and conductor to
avoid rash driving, over speeding, wrong parking.
During the awareness camp, ARTO, Udhampur Kuldeep
Singh gave detailed resume on account of 29th road safety week celebration in
the district. He informed the drivers and conductors about the
importance of observance of Road Safety Rules and adherence to traffic norms to
ensure safety on the roads.
A symposium competition was organized
by the Motor Vehicle department on
3rd day of ongoing Celebration of 29th road
safety week. Around 200 students from 27 different educational institution
participated in the contest.
Later, DDC accompanied by SSP Udhampur issued PSV
Badge among the authorized drivers who
participated in the awareness programmes.
On the occasion, DC also administered a road safety pledge to all the
participants as well as the representatives.
Among others, Deputy Controller Civil Defence,
Shamsher Singh, DSP Traffic, Ajay Jamwal, Station House Officer, Sanjeev Gupta,
Deputy Chief Warden Civil Defence, Advocate Swatanter Dev Kotwal, Inspector of
MVD, Ranjan Singh, Inspector C.S Baloria and
other officers of different departments besides representative of Bus and
Matador Union drivers and conductors were also present
on the occasion.
