Belagavi, Apr 9: Three teenagers in the age group of 12-14 were drowned in a stone quarry pond
when they went for a swim at Mannur village near here on Sunday.
Police said today that the dead were identified
as Akash Chougule (14), Sahil Balekundri (14) and Kushan Chougule (12). They
had gone to the pond for a swim to beat sweltering heat but did not know that
the pond was very deep and drowned.
According to local sources, the children had tied plastic cans to their waist to float but unfortunately the rope that secured cans with their bodies slipped from the cans and trio started drowning. Getting panic at the scene friends of the ill-fated trio alerted the villagers but it was too late and they could not be rescued. Some local youths rushed to the incident spot but in vein. Later the bodies were fished out the bodies and send district hospital.
Senior police officials including commissioner of police D C Rajappa, DCP (L&O) Seema Latkar was visited to mortuary yesterday evening. The case has been registered at Kakati police station. UNI
