Agartala, Apr 7: To increase the use of natural gas instead of non-renewable fuel sources, Tripura National Gas Company Ltd (TNGCL) has allowed conversion of more vehicles from petrol
and diesel to compress natural gas (CNG).
The Marketing Manager of TNGCL Joyjit Chowdhury said despite having potential the company has not yet been able to set up CNG filling station across the state. Apart from that there was a huge demand of CNG vehicle but it is stopped because of inadequate fuel filling station.
At present six CNG filling stations are functioning in the state catering to the needs of about 12000 auto rickshaws and more than 2000 small vehicles operating in Agartala, Khowai and Udaipur. TNGCL has been able to cover around 35000 kitchens with pipeline natural gas (PNG) of more than two lakh households in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area.
Keeping in view the growing demand of clean energy, TNGCL has decided to install three more CNG stations at Bishalgarh, Bishramganj and Udaipur, which will cater to south bound vehicles and the company is studying the feasibility of setting up CNG filling stations in Northern parts of the state, Chowdhury stated.
“There is also sufficient demand of CNG and PNG in Dhalai, Unokoti and North Tripura districts but the company has not yet been assured the supply of gas and investment for establishing the infrastructures,” he said adding that CNG conversion of vehicles would be able to cut down air pollution substantially and help us retain the tag of clean atmosphere of Tripura.
TNGCL is also working on expansion of PNG lines in Northern part of Agartala and remaining portion of the city, targeting to complete PNG network by next two years, he added. UNI
