Five held with poppy straw, heroin in Ramban, Jammu

Jammu, May 2: Police have arrested five people along with poppy straw and heroin in separate incidents in Ramban and Jammu districts.
Police during wee hours on Wednesday at a check point near Chenani intercepted a truck coming from Srinagar towards Udhampur.
The truck driver tried to flee from the spot but arrested after a chase, police here said.
They said that the driver leaving the vehicle at an isolated place at Champeri, fled away taking the advantage of darkness and during checking three bags of ‘bhuki doda’ (poppy) weighing 46 kg were recovered which were concealed inside the scrap tyres.
The driver was identified as Riaz Ahmed of Dragar Karnah in Kupwara from the credentials mentioned in driving licence, Aadhar Card and other documents seized from the vehicle.
He was arrested later, police said adding that a case has been registered and investigation started.
In another operation, police recovered 10 kg of bhuki from the cabin of truck and arrested the driver Talib Hussain of Baishty, Chenani and helper Sunil Kumar alias Sonu of Narsoo, Chenani.
However, police also arrested two persons with contraband of 25 grams of heroin at Gangyal on Tuesday night in Jammu when they were heading towards Bari Brahmana from Satwari.
The arrested were identified as Sunil Kumar, resident of Laswara, (Bishnah, Jammu) and Ashu Choudhary, resident of Vijaypur (Samba).
A case under NDPS Act was registered and investigation started. UNI
