SRINAGAR, MAY 21: The Joint House
Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council constituted to look into the
alleged medical negligence by doctors into the death of son of sitting
MLC, Ramesh Arora in Government Medical College, Jammu met here today under the
chairmanship of MLC, Ghulam Nabi Moga and discussed some of the important
aspects related to the incident.
Legislators,
Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Ali Mohammad Dar, Dr Shehnaz Ganai and Firdous
Ahmad Tak attended the meeting.
The Committee
discussed the measures to be taken to further improving the health care and
infrastructural facilities in Government health institutions, including GMC,
Jammu so that every common man can avail these hassle-free. The Committee
opined that healthcare is the fundamental right of every citizen, for which the
Government spends lot of funds, and authorities must ensure that best treatment
is ensured to every needy. They further called that health authorities should
be made more transparent and accountable to restore the confidence of patients
and every effort should be made that no patient dies due to medical negligence.
The members
suggested several valuable measures to be taken at the tertiary level to save
precious lives in the government institutions. They called for periodical
review of facilities by the higher authorities to plug the gaps, if any found
at any level. The health is a paramount sector and Government should pay
focused attention to further strengthen it at all levels, said the Committee.
It was also
decided that the Committee will undertake a detailed inspection of GMC, Jammu
and other health institutions on 25th and 26th of May, 2018 and
take stock of the existing health infrastructure vis-a-vis diagnostic
facilities available for the patients.
Additional Secretary, Council, Ali Mohammad Rawat, besides other senior
officers and officials of Council Secretariat were also present in the meeting.
