GANDERBAL, MAY 02: Department of Agriculture, Ganderbal, today organized a Kissan Kalyan Diwas (or Farmers Welfare Day) under the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan programme at Chek-Duderhuma here. District Development Commissioner Ganderbal Dr. Piyush Singla was the chief guest on the occasion.
A large number of farmers from different zones of Ganderbal district participated in the programme during which farmers were given demonstrations on various farming-related practices like collection of soil samples from the field, mushroom cultivation, honey bee cultivation and organic farming. Farmers were also sensitized about raising of vegetable nurseries in poly-green houses and cultivation of vegetables during the off-season.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC Ganderbal asked the officers and field functionaries of the department to gear up for the effective implementation of different centrally and state-sponsored schemes.
He also urged the farmers to take advantage of schemes available with the department to increase the farm yield and enhance their financial standing.
Various speakers on the occasion appraised the gathering regarding various programs being implemented by the department for the betterment of the farming community and provided technical know-how regarding various income generating schemes.
Later, the DDC also distributed hybrid seeds and soil health cards among the farmers.
Chief Agriculture Officer Ganderbal, District Agriculture Officer Ganderbal, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Ganderbal, scientists from KVK Ganderbal and subject matter specialists of the department were also present on the occasion.
