Jammu, May 25: Bharatiya
Janata Party has expressed sympathies with the victims of the grenade attack at
Jammu Bus Stand and condemned the efforts of inimical forces to disturb the
peace and tranquility of Jammu, the city of temples and commercial hub of the
state. Brig Anil Gupta, State Spokesperson of the party has stated in a press
release issued by the Party, “As per assessment from available inputs, inimical
forces-both external and internal have decided to make Jammu a target of hybrid
war unleashed by our hostile neighbour Pakistan. After, being successful in
scuttling the ongoing tourist season in Kashmir, the inimical forces are
determined to derail the economy of Jammu as well.”
Explaining further Brig
Gupta said, “The aim of the hybrid war is multifarious with major focus on
triggering communal violence and giving setback to Jammu’s economy to create
public alienation against the government.” As part of the same design, enemy
created a mayhem in the area close to international border (IB), leading to
large number of causalities thereby creating a fear -psychosis among the border
residents. Standing crop, cattle and other livestock of these people has been
destroyed resulting in financial crisis and a severe jolt to the local economy.
The border firing was also aimed at scaring the Vaishno Devi and Amarnath
yatris since religious tourism forms the back bone of Jammu’s economy. With the
Holy yatra due to commence in June and with summer vacations due to begin in
major parts of the country, a spurt in religious tourism is expected. However,
the inimical forces want to curtail that by creating uncertainty about the security
situation in the mind of the potential tourists, claimed Brig Gupta.
A few incidents in the
immediate past have affected the communal harmony prevailing in Jammu wherein a
mistrust between the otherwise friendly communities has been created. This has
further been weakened by the presence of Rohangiyas, whose past misdeeds are
being revealed by the media. The enemy wants to exploit the fragility in the
communal harmony by such provocative acts, warned Brig Gupta. There is an
urgent need for the police to operate pro-actively to detect and smash the over
ground network including sleeper cells operating in Jammu to defeat the
nefarious design of the inimical forces advised the spokesperson.
Recalling from his experience of the past when Jammu witnessed the worst
phase of terrorism (2000-2003), Brig Gupta reminded the people that security is
not the singular responsibility of the police but a collective responsibility
of all the citizens. Every individual has to be security conscious and assist
the police and administration by informing them about any unusual movement or
object noticed by him/her. The security grid also needs to be tightened with
the police on duty displaying greater professionalism, quick response and
seamless coordination. While the government needs to be pro-active and alert,
Brig Gupta also appealed to all the political parties to come together to fight
the enemy and crush the evil eye cast by him on the peace, tranquility and
economy of Jammu.
