New Delhi, Jul 20: Two brothers have been arrested for their involvement in several cases of cheating and motor vehicles theft, police said today.
With their arrest, police claimed to have solved nine cases of cheating and theft.
The duo, identified as Kurram and Akram, are residents of the Ashram area here, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Devender Arya said.
Two stolen vehicles, a scooter used in the commission of crime and five mobile phones were recovered from them, he said.
Acting on a tip off, police arrested the accused while they were trying to cheat an individual by handing him a mobile-shaped piece of glass wrapped in a black cover instead of an iPhone which they had earlier shown him, the officer said.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they cheated their targets by posing as police officers or by borrowing mobile phones on the pretext of making an urgent call and even visited several banks where they tricked people on the pretext of helping them deposit money, the DCP said.
Similarly, they cheated victims on the pretext of cleaning their gold ornaments, he added.
Investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of the accused in other cases, Arya said. (PTI)
