KUPWARA, SEPTEMBER 11: A district-level training
programme on local groundwater-related issues and participatory groundwater
management was held here today with District Development Commissioner Khalid
Jahangir in chair.
The programme was
organized by Central Ground Water Board North Western Himalayan Region, Jammu
under the aegis of National Ground Water Training and Research Institute
Raipur.
The programme was
also attended by JD Planning, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Scientist and Head of Central
Ground Water Board Jammu, Ashok Kumar, Scientist and Nodal Officer Aspirational
District Kupwara, Rayees Ahmad Pir besides Engineers from PHE, I&FC, soil
and water conservation, agriculture, groundwater experts and other concerned.
The programme was
aimed at providing necessary training to the participants with regard to
water conservation and preservation, groundwater drilling techniques,
monitoring and assessment of water resources, artificial rainwater harvesting
techniques besides participatory groundwater management.
On the occasion,
the DDC said that special attention needs to be given towards water resources
including rivers, nallas, springs and streams so that effective strategies are
put in place for proper conservation of these assets.
The DDC stressed
for judicious use of water in order to combat challenges in future. He enjoined
upon the concerned to work in coordination for strict implementation of the
water conservation programme. He assured full support from the district
administration and expressed optimism that the participants will avail the
benefits of the programme.
He said that the
district administration is keen to provide every possible facility to the
people including those living in far-flung and remote areas regarding
conservation and preservation of water.
Earlier JD planning briefed the meeting about the highlights of
Aspirational District Kupwara.
