Anna’s forthcoming agitation
Jammu, Sept 06: Tarun Uppal, social activist and
national Core Committee member of Anna Hazare Movement met Anna Hazare,
80-year-old anti-graft activist in Ralegaon Siddhi discussed various issues for
the upcoming hunger strike starting from October 2 seeking Lokpal.
Anna said that he will sit on a hunger strike
from October 2, 2018 over issues like appointment of Lokpal and welfare
measures for the agrarian sector including Rs 5,000 monthly pension for
farmers. He also sought implementation of the Swaminathan Commission
recommendations to alleviate the plight of farmers, who have been facing
serious economic crisis.
“The government has not acted on the aforesaid
demands despite repeated requests,” he said, adding that he will launch the
hunger strike at his native village Ralegan Siddhi, on the Birth Anniversary of
Mahatma Gandhi.
Hazare sat on hunger strike in Delhi in March
this year raising the demands, but had called it off after assurance from the
representative sent by Prime Minister’s Office.
“It’s unfortunate to say that none of the demands
have been considered by the government and I have decided to sit on hunger
strike from October 2 this year,” he said.
Tarun Uppal said that if the aforesaid demands
would not considered upto October 2, all the activists linked with Anna Hazare
will launch an agitation in their perspective native places throughout the
country on October 2.
"The demand of appointments of Lokpal and
Lokayukta for ensuring speedy justice to people combating corruption and
assuring transparency in governance and another demand for implementing the
Swaminathan Commission Report have not been fulfilled despite repeated requests
to the government," Uppal said.
Uppal appealed to the people of J&K to extend
full support to the upcoming hunger strike of Anna Hazare so that the
government will be forced to implement Lokpal and Lokayukta in letter and
spirit.
