Jammu, Sept 28: Under Swachhata
Hi Seva Campaign, Jammu Municipal Corporation organized a Workshop on Solid
Waste Management in the Conference Hall of Jammu Municipal Corporation wherein
the representatives of different Welfare Associations from various wards of
Jammu were participated. Audio visual presentations and power point
presentations were made to the audience which showed the best practices of
waste management and drove home the point of the responsibility of citizens in
managing and segregating the waste in their households. Dr. Zaffar Iqbal,
Municipal Veterinary Officer gave a practical demonstration on Solid Liquid
Resource Management (SLRM) wherein it was apprised that how to manage the
household waste by keeping two colour dustbins (Blue and Green) for dry and wet
waste. He also demonstrated the methods by which bio degradable and non bio
degradable waste could be separated and how the organic waste could be turned
into compost for the home lawns.
The Representatives of the welfare
associations appreciated the information and awareness shared by the
corporation. This was followed by a question answer session and brain storming
wherein the representatives gave their suggestions and highlighted problems of
cleanliness in Jammu city.

Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation while speaking on the occasion stated
that Hon’ble Prime Minister of India has started Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign
throughout the country for making the nation clean and under the said
Campaign, JMC is organizing different activities to educate the common masses
for maintaining proper sanitation in and around their respective surroundings
as well as to keep the Jammu city clean.
The motive of organizing the said
workshop is to create awareness for effective management of solid waste and
participants will play an active role at their individual level for further
motivating the residents of their respective areas so that the desired results
could be achieved in respect of solid waste management in such a
scientific and effective manner.
He added that mandate of JMC is to
keep the City neat and clean but residents of different areas can play an
important role to minimize the burden of JMC by managing the solid waste
at their households.

(Workshop), Sh. Talat Mehmood Khan, AEE (Transport), Sh. Amitabh Manhas, AEE
(Mech.), Sanitation Officers, Revenue Officers and other staff of the
Corporation participated in the workshop.
