UDHAMPUR, OCTOBER
03: Social Welfare Department today organised series of events to
mark the celebration of Senior Citizens Week.
The events
were held under the supervision of District Social Welfare Officer, Sana Khan.
An
awareness generation event was organized at Little Angles Wonderland High
School, wherein information and guidance was provided regarding care and
protection to be given to the senior citizens through Social Welfare Department
and other stakeholders.
Speaking on the
occasion, the Chief guest Dr. Anirudh Rai, Collector Northern Railways
Udhampur, sensitized the children about the need for care of grandparents and
people in old age in general by engaging with them in various acts of kindness.
Highlighting the
role of younger generations in providing care and security to the elders,
District Social Welfare Officer, urged the people to come forward for the
welfare of the senior citizens as they are the backbone and knowledge house of
the society.
Further, a pledge
was also administered to the children to take care of the health, feelings and
wishes of the senior citizens as a young men’s service. As a token of respect
and appreciation, souvenirs were also distributed among the elders working in
the institute.
Earlier, in another event at Jagriti Old Age Home an
interaction was held with the inmates who shared their experiences with the
officers and officials of the department. Along with prayers for their
wellbeing, the department also distributed fruits among them.
