Srinagar, Aug 19 :  Two policemen, including a Station House Officer (SHO), were allegedly thrashed by Army soldiers after they objected the ‘harassment’ of a civilian by troopers in Kupwara distruct. Official sources said Army personnel were allegedly harassing a man in the main Kupwara town outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The policemen, including an SHO, on duty in the area objected to the alleged harassment. “Following altercation, Army personnel allegedly thrashed the two on-duty policemen. One of the policemen, who was severely beaten, was hospitalized,” the sources added. When contacted, a Defence Ministry spokesperson said they are looking into the incident. Last month, six policemen, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), were injured when Army soldiers allegedly thrashed them after being stopped at a checkpost at Gund in Ganderbal district. Following the incident on July 22, senior Army officer were sent to Gund police station to ease the situation. The incident also promoted General officer Commanding (GoC) of Army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Lt General J S Sandhu to say the army and police always work like brothers-in-arms. “Efforts to create a wedge between army and police by anti-nationals won’t work. We are together, always working as brothers-in-arms,” the GoC wrote on his Twitter handle on July 24. UNI
