Patna,
Sep 20: RJD chief Lalu Prasad today held Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and
state Water Resources Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh responsible
for the collapse of the wall of Ganga pump canal project in Bhagalpur district
and demanded their immediate resignations for their guilt. Asking for high
level probe into the sudden collapse of the wall of ganga pump canal project
last evening after the release of water into the canal on a trial basis, Mr
Prasad told newspersons here that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was expected to
inaugurate ganga pump canal worth Rs 828 crore at Bateshwar this morning but
the wall of canal project collapsed hours before the scheduled inauguration. He
said, all preparation were made for the function but the wall of ganga pump
canal project itself collapsed due to the pressure of water. He said the
collapse of wall amply proved that no attention was paid to maintain the
quality of canal digging as corruption was rampant in the work. He said the
Chief Minister and minister concerned were responsible for monitoring the work
but they were negligent in their duties and now both of them should resign from
their respective posts before the probe into the collapse of the wall began.
The RJD chief said Chief Minister and state water resources minister were also
responsible for the devastating flood in north Bihar this season. He said that
he had already made it clear that large tracts of the land were not suddenly
inundated but the ‘flood was deliberated caused”. “When flood water had entered
into various districts of north Bihar, water resources minister pleaded that
rates feeding food grains kept by villagers on embankments had weakened the
structures, now the minister should explain whether crocodile was responsible
for collapse of the wall,” he remarked. UNI
