Delhi, Oct 17: At the receiving end of defalcation charges against party
chief Amit Shah's son, the BJP on Tuesday upped the ante against Congress and
the 'first family' of Congress party and questioned the "silence" on
alleged nexus between Robert Vadra and fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari.
"Why Congress President (Sonia Gandhi) and Vice President (Rahul Gandhi)
are keeping studied silence.....The Congress leadership cannot remain
silent," BJP leader and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters
here even as she admitted that Mr Vadra is a "private person".
"Yes, he is private person but he is also the son-in-law of first family
of the Congress party.... and all these transactions and tele phone talks
between Bhandari and Robert Vadra took place in around 2010 during the tenure
of UPA-2," she said in reply to a question. She said earlier the Congress
spokespersons had dismissed the allegations saying mere purported telephonic
talks cannot establish any motive but added that : "the fresh media expose
only talk about transactions with financial implications". Maintaining
that a sum of 7.5 lakh Swiss Franc has been reportedly deposited in the account
of Sanjay Bhandari, the Defence Minister said, "we are only asking is
there a link". She said there have been claims that Robert Vadra had held
telephonic talks with Bhandari for "refurbishing" his London House. UNI
