New Delhi, Nov 8: A day after the Aam Aadmi Party Government blamed crop burning in Punjab and Haryana for rising pollution levels in the national capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday urged his counterparts in both the states to find a solution to this issue.
"I am writing letters to Chief Ministers of Punjab (Amarinder Singh) and Haryana ( Manohar Lal Khattar), requesting them for a meeting to find solution to crop burning," Mr Kejriwal tweeted. On Tuesday, his Cabinet colleague, Manish Sisodia had blamed burning of crop residue in Punjab and Haryana for rising levels of pollution in Delhi and said that the Centre should initiate dialogue with the neighbouring states to stop the practice. After Mr Kejriwal suggested Mr Sisodia to shut schools, owing to the alarming pollution levels in Delhi, the latter on Tuesday evening announced closure of primary schools on Wednesday and said if required it would be extended.  He also banned outdoor activities , keeping health issues of the students in mind.
The National Green Tribunal had sought an update by Thursday from neighbouring states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, apart from the Delhi government, about the measures taken by them to control the rising air pollution. UNI
