New Delhi, Dec 1: Continuing his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the run-up to the Assembly elections in Gujarat, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday questioned him on allegedly benefiting four private companies between 2002 and 2016 at the cost of the state-run companies.
Posing his third in a series of questions being raised by him to the Prime Minister, Mr Gandhi asked as to why, as chief minister of Gujarat, Mr Modi purchased power from four private companies at Rs 24 per unit as against Rs 3 per unit being charged by the state-run power units, thus squandering away public money.
'Taking account of 22 years of BJP, Gujarat seeks answers. My third question to the PM: Why did he fill coffers of four private companies on purchase of power from them worth Rs 62,549 crore between 2002 and 2016? Why was the capacity of state power units reduced by 62 per cent while electricity worth Rs 3 per unit was purchased from the private companies at Rs 24 per unit. Why was the public money squandered away in this manner,'Mr Gandhi asked.
Yesterday, the Congress vice-president had attacked Mr Modi on the sharp rise in debt burden of Gujarat between 1995 and 2017. UNI
