New Delhi, Feb 22: Stating that Railways was following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mantra of ``Reform, Perform and Transform", Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha on Thursday said the success of reforms requires development of sustainable, transparent, efficient and responsive supply chain.
Speaking at the inaugural session of “Suppliers’ Samvad” - Journey towards Digitisation, Transparency & Ease of Doing Business' here, Mr Sinha said the Suppliers’ Samvad would boost the Indian Railways’ efforts to reduce entry barriers, promote competition and fairness, develop MSEs and reduce inefficiencies and deliver the outcome expected of the government's policy initiatives.
He informed that Railways would soon launch digitisation of suppliers’ bills which would help improve transparency and align industry with “Digital India” initiative. On one hand it would introduce transparency and efficiency into the railway-vendor relationship and, on the other it would enhance ease of doing business for the vendor, he said.
Pointing out that digitization of supply chain was a step in the right direction, Mr Sinha said integrating all stakeholders and simplification of business processes would help in enhancing ease of doing business and transparency which would benefit both Railways and industry.
Moreover, digitization of supply chain would also help in opening opportunities for educated youth, startups and women entrepreneurs by reducing transaction costs and entry barriers, the Minister added.
He said that Railways also conducted special vendor development programs across the country and the meet in Guwahati and vendor camp in Kashmir Valley were first of their kind in these regions.
He hoped that the discussions in Samvad would result in better understanding of issues and bring supply chain to harness mutual benefit for Railways and industries. UNI
