Srinagar: A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit the state on January 22, resulting in moderate to heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, which would once again affect air and surface connectivity from the valley.
Meanwhile, avalanche warning has already been issued in the higher reaches in Kashmir valley, including north Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Bandipora.
An official spokesperson here today said that the Divisional Administration Kashmir today issued a weather advisory according to which WD is likely to affect the state from January 22 to January 26, 2017.
"A fresh weather system (Western Disturbance) over J&K is likely to affect the state from January 22 afternoon to January 26. Under the influence of this system, moderate rain or snow is expected in most places of J&K region," he said.
He said that higher reaches of Kashmir, Ladakh and hilly areas of Jammu are likely to receive moderate to heavy snowfall during the period.
"This may lead to closure of National Highway and disruption of surface and air transport," he added.
Accordingly, he said the Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division, including Leh and Kargil, have been asked to take precautionary measures in their respective districts. (Agencies)
