SRINAGAR, MAY 25: Chief Secretary, Mr B
B Vyas Thursday chaired a meeting
here to review the progress of Sports Infrastructure Development and the
implementation of the Rs 200 Crore Special Sports
Package announced under the PMDP-2015.
Director General,
(NADA), Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Mr Naveen Agarwal,
Secretary, Youth Services & Sports Department, J&K, Mr Hilal Ahmad
Parray, Director (Infra), Sports Authority of India (SAI), Mr Sanjay Baranwal,
Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Mr Waheed-Ur Rahman and other senior
officers were present.
In order to give
impetus to the sports activities in the state, Chief Secretary underscored the
importance of creation/upgradation of adequate sports infrastructure and
equipping sports clubs/academies.
While reviewing the
progress of work on various components of the 200 Cr Special Package, which
includes development of Bakshi Stadium Srinagar and MA Stadium Jammu into world
class sports stadiums, Chief Secretary stressed on completing the projects
expeditiously.
Chief Secretary also
instructed the Youth Services & Sports Department to utilize the services
of the 200 players, who recently underwent Special Certificate Courses in
Sports Coaching in various disciplines at NIS, Patiala.
Regarding setting up
of Indoor Sports Halls in all the 22 districts of the State, Chief Secretary
asked for constituting special teams, who will visit the identified sites and
ensure that the project work on the Indoor Halls starts quickly in all
districts. He directed JKPCC to complete the soil investigation of the 12 sites
within a week, following which site specific DPRs be finalised within 15 days.
It was informed that
the Sports infrastructure is
being developed through agencies of the Union and the State
Government i.e National Projects Construction Corporation Ltd (NPCC) and
J&K Sports Council respectively.
In order to improve coordination between the NPCC and State agencies and ensure
proper monitoring of the executed works, Chief Secretary asked NPCC to have a
proper Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) established here.
