JAMMU MAY 26: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal
Singh, today directed the officers to chalk out effective strategies and adopt
innovative measures to fulfill the vision and mission of ‘Clean India’.
The Deputy Chief
Minster was speaking during a valedictory function of workshop on Swachh Bharat
Mission organized by Directorate of Urban Local Bodies and Jammu Municipal
Corporation.
It was apprised
that under SBM involves work on various components like Individual Household Toilets, Community Toilets, Public
Seats,(Toilets), Solid Waste Management, IEC & Public
Awareness and Capacity building.
“Change in mindset of people and holding workshops, training
camps for field staff is key to hone their skills for effective implementation
of SBM in letter & sprit, Dr. Singh said.
He also stressed on
organizing road shows, quiz competitions, debates seminars in educational
institutions to raise awareness regarding the SBM. He said that SBM has been an
inclusive model of cleanliness where people from every strata of the society
including NGOs, private agencies have come forward to contribute their bit in
the massive cleanliness drive.
Highlighting the
objective of the Swachh Bharat or Clean India Mission to end open defecation,
the Dy CM directed the officers to redouble their efforts for achieving the
target of Open Defecation Free (ODF) in all towns of Jammu and achieving the
same by December 2017
Dr. Singh said that
the present dispensation has launched numerous innovative and reformative
programmes to empower people especially under privileged sections socially and
economically.

Secretary Housing & Urban Development Hridesh Kumar, Director Urban Local Bodies Arun Sharma, Commissioner
Jammu Municipal Corporation M. Raju, Joint
Director Local Bodies, Joint Commissioner JMC, other senior officers of JMC,
H&UDD, resource persons besides
representatives of Pollution Control Board and other concerned were present in
the meeting.
