SRINAGAR, MAY 19: To give a boost to sports activities and to channelize the energy of youth in a positive direction, Health & Medical Education Department is contemplating to organize a mega-State level sports event in the Valley during this season.
In this
regard a preliminary meeting was chaired here today by the Minister for
H&ME, Bali Bhagat, to chalk out a strategy for organizing the event. He
said the sports activities are mandatory for physical as well as mental fitness
and the Government will devise a strategy to hold regular annual events in
future for the benefits of doctors, medical students and others across the State
in association with concerned sports authorities.
Director Health Services Kashmir Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Principal Medical
College SKIMS Prof. Riyaz Ahmed Untoo, Principal GMC Srinagar Prof. Samia
Rashid, Secretary Sports Council Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, Project Director
J&K AIDS Control Society Dr. M.A. Rather and other concerned were present
in the meeting.
During the meeting, it was decided that a Committee of Head of
Departments will be constituted which will suggest further course of action
vis-à-vis arrangements of funds, logistics, quantum of tournament, number of
teams to participate, venues, etc for the sports event. The concerned Committee
shall coordinate with other concerned agencies and decide on related issues for
the smooth conduct of tournament.
