LEH, JUNE 27- Minister for Ladakh Affairs and
Cooperative, Chhering Dorjey today discussed the modalities for setting up of
prestigious Solar Power plant and upgradation of irrigational facilities at
village Phey in Lah with the locals during his visit to the village.
While interacting with the people, the Minister said that the Government
has already approved a Solar Power Plant with a capacity of 20 MWs on 800
kanals of land at village Phey through JKPDC for augmentation of power
scenario. He further said that Government has also sanctioned a Lift Irrigation
scheme for the village, which was a long pending demand of the people and
efforts are being made to arrange the funds for the same. Both these projects
have been sanctioned under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of PDC.
He discussed the modalities with regard to the acquisition of land and
other issues with the people and local administration. He called upon the
administration to take immediate measures to acquire the land for both these
projects to commence work on these at the earliest.
In order to augment the drinking water scenario in the area, the
Minister said that the Government has devised a sustainable scheme to ensure
adequate quantity of water to the people. The water will be lifted from the
river and supplied to the peripheral localities. The Minister further informed
that the Government will explore all possibilities to establish more hydro
power projects of different capacities, preferably in Nubra, Lalok and Leh to
make optimum use of the available potential. He hoped that with these
developmental initiatives, the socio-economic status of the area will
definitely get a boost.
On the occasion, the locals put forth few demands before the Minister
which pertained to the blacktopping of approach road, completion of internal
road and installation of a motorable bridge over the Indus in place of the foot
suspension bridge connecting other side of the Indus which was washed away by
the flood in 2010.
The Councilor area, Phuntsog Dorjey and Executive Engineer, PDC, Shiv
Kumar also accompanied the Minister in the village.
