Penalizes 23 traders, recovers Rs 15800 fine
SRINAGAR, JUNE 06: The Field executives of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Legal Metrology & Food Safety and Standards today conducted joint market inspection of different markets of Srinagar city  in view of the ensuing holuy month of Ramdhan.
Officials said the team under the supervision of senior officers of the legal metrology department and FCS&CA inspected markets of Karan Nagar, Residency Road and Lal Chowk.
They said 23 erring commercial establishments were penalised for the violation of   various rules and a sum of Rs 15800 was slapped on the defaulters for the lapses. The erring establishments include 10 Bakery shops, 2 hotel & Restaurants and 11 vegetable and fruit shops.
The officials said it was observed during the inspection that some of the bakery and sweet shops offered sale for the bakery and sweet items without carrying the mandatory declarations viz MRP, Date of Packing, best Before, Net Quantity etc.

During the inspection, traders were directed to display Rate list at prominent places and consumers available on the spot were advised to remain vigilant about the rates, quality and other mandatory information and before purchasing the same, the shopkeepers should be asked to satisfy them on this front.
