JAMMU, JUNE 16 - Minister for PHE, Irrigation
and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary visited Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas to take
stock of the arrangements being made for the convenience of the pilgrims coming
to the state for annual Shri Amarnath ji yatra.
Chief Engineer PHE Susheel Aima, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood
Control Rajeev Gandotra, Chief Engineer, RTIC Mahesh Das, Director, Tourism
Smita Sethi, SE Hydraulic Jammu, Executive Engineers and other senior officers
of department were present on the occasion.
The Yatra Officer briefed the Minister about the facilities being
provided to the yatris during their stay at Yatri Niwas, which act as Jammu
base camp for the annual pilgrimage.
The Minister was informed that cultural programmes would be organized on
daily basis to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the state and pilgrims
will be informed about the various prominent tourism destinations of the state.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to put adequate
arrangements in place to ensure comfort of the pilgrims. He asked PDD and PHE
to ensure uninterrupted water and power supply. Other concerned departments
were directed to ensure requisite logistic facilities for the pilgrims.
Yesterday, the Minister visited annual Mela at Mazar of Baba Har Pir at
Sai and prayed for peace and prosperity in the state particularly in the border
areas.
The Mela was followed by a Dangal in which 40 wrestlers from across the
State and Punjab participated. Wrestler Kaka Ram of Bega Bura defeated the
wrestler from Punjab and won Rs. 12,000 as cash prize.
The Minister distributed the prizes among the winning wrestlers and said
that these types of events should be organized regularly for generating
awareness regarding the sport.
