SHOPIAN, JULY 05: An anti-poppy cultivation drive on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Shopian was conducted today during which 20 kanals of the banned crops was destroyed in various areas of the district.
A team headed by Tehsildar Zainapora raided various places in the district and destroyed poppy cultivation at village Melawra and Zainapora during the drive.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the ill-effects of substance abuse and its overall negatives consequences on the society. He called for creating more awareness about the drug addiction and said that joint teams comprising concerned Naib Tehsildar, Station House Officers and Assistant Excise officers headed by respective Tehsildars have been already constituted to intensify the drive.
He said that strict action as per the law will be initiated against the violators and added that the anti-poppy drive shall continue till it is rooted out from the district.
