BARAMULLA JULY, 06: A Joint
inspection of petrol stations was carried out in Baramulla by teams of Legal
Metrology Department and HPCL Company.
During the inspection, petrol stations were thoroughly checked for
quality and quantity of fuel being sold to consumers, insertion of extraneous
fittings in the fuel dispensing machines, provision of free tyre air facility,
separate toilet facility for men and women, drinking water facility, medical
first aid, and dynamic fuel rate displays.
One petrol pump was found to be delivering 40 ml petrol short in every 5
liters sold to consumers from one of its dispensing units and a case was
registered by Legal Metrology Department against the petrol pump for violation
of Section 39 (2) of the J&K Standards of Weights and Measures
(Enforcement) Act, 1997.
All the
petrol pump owners were advised to carry out quantity checks of their
dispensing units on daily basis using a 5 liter capacity measure duly verified
by the Department and in case an error in quantity of fuel being delivered is
observed, the matter should be brought into notice of the concerned Legal
Metrology Officer and such dispensing units shall be recalibrated immediately,
officials said.
They also said that petrol pumps that are not following the Law and the
company guidelines in letter and spirit will be strictly dealt with.
