POONCH, JULY 15: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tariq Ahmed Zargar, today convened
a meeting to review necessary arrangements for the launch of Swadhar Greh’ in
the district which is aimed to create a supportive institutional framework for
women in difficult circumstances.
Traffic Mobile Magistrate Sayed Vajhat Hussain Kazmi, Deputy Director
Employment Shazia Khan, District Social Welfare Officer, District Health
Officer, Chief Planning Officer attended the meeting.
On
the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner nominated Deputy Director Employment
Poonch as the nodal officer for smooth functioning of ‘Swadhar Greh’ scheme and
its effective implementation.
The
DC stressed the officers to put in their best for successful implementation of
the scheme launched to rehabilitate women in distress economically and
emotionally and act as a support system that understands and meets their
various requirements.
Stressing on the importance of upholding and maintaining the dignity of women,
the DC said the scheme besides envisages shelter, food, clothing, health as
well as economic and social security to women, would also help in preventing
their exploitation as a social defense mechanism.
It
was said that domestic violence affected women could stay up to one year at the
Swadhar Greh, while as for other categories of affected women the maximum
period is up to three years. However, women above fifty-five years of age may
be accommodated for five years after which they will have to shift to old age
homes or similar institutions.
