SHOPIAN, JULY 05: - The District Development
Commissioner, Shopian Mohammad Aijaz, today convened a meeting to review
up-gradation of the Srinagar-Qazigund road (National Highway 444), connecting
six districts of the valley including Shopian with the National Highway.
The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Assistant
Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Executive Engineers, District Officers, and the
officials of the concerned departments.
Stressing on the importance of National Highway 444 , the DDC said that
the proposed highway was approved by the Union Government to improve road
infrastructure in the State which would address the ever increasing vehicular
movement.
It was given out that the approximate length of the road would be 127km
connecting Shopian district to Srinagar and Qazigund.
Threadbare discussion was held on various issues like residential
property, graveyards, religious structures etc.
He directed the executing agencies that minimum residential houses shall
be brought under its alignment and religious structures, as well as Grave
Yards, shall be excluded as far as possible.
Regarding the alignment of roads, the DDC directed the agencies to
expedite land acquisition process.
