SRINAGAR,
JULY 03: The
BSNL J&k has given a huge order to one Multinational Company namely Syrma
Technology Pvt Ltd Chennai Tamil Nadu for supplying them Broadband Modems with
the condition that the label of the product should not contain Max Retail Price
as the BSNL is not conducting the sale of such modems but is providing the same
to its internet users/customers on
security basis.
Under Legal
Metrology(Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 every pre-packaged commodity must
carry certain mandatory declarations like MRP, Month & year of Manufacture,
Address with e-mail and consumer care details etc so that the consumer may make
rational choice while making purchases. There is an exemption of mandatory
declarations for
the products which are meant for institutions like hospitals, Airways, Hotels
etc. Such products shall carry the vivid declaration not for retail sale. The
Legal Metrology Officer Pulwama Shakeel Ahamad Lala seized some packages of the
modems for not carrying MRP.
The
Assistant Controller Pulwama served a notice to the company and during the
investigation it was ascertained that these supplies of modems were meant for
institution BSNL and the company was held responsible for not making
declaration ‘not
for retail sale’.
The
company confessed the lapse and pleaded for compounding the challan case. The
challan case was compounded for Rs 75,000.
