JAMMU, JULY 21- The Directorate of Urban Local Bodies in collaboration
with Jammu Municipal Corporation today organized a workshop to intimate the
Civic body officials and other stakeholders about the objectives under Swacch
Bharat including the target of making cities and towns Open Defecation Free.
Director Urban Local Bodies, Arun Kumar Sharma inaugurated the workshop organized by Directorate of Urban Local Bodies,
here today.
The
workshop was attended by Chief Executive Officers of Municipal bodies, officials of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC),
Pollution Control Board, representatives of NGOs and people from diverse walks
of life.
Addressing the participants, Director ULB said that the Union Government
has come up with comprehensive schemes for scientific disposal of solid waste,
Urban Transport Management and effective and efficient drainage system within
specific time frame for their implementation.
He said that prime objective of the Swachh Bharat Mission is to ensure
Open Defecation Free Cities and Towns by establishing individual household
toilets, community based toilets and public toilets so that the target of clean
India could be achieved by October 2, 2019.
Joint Commissioner, JMC, R.S. Jamwal, said that ODF
involves work on various components like Individual Household Toilets,
Community Toilets, Solid Waste Management, IEC & Public Awareness and
Capacity building.
Scientist
PCB, Anuradha Gupta, said Installation of waste-to-compost and bio-methanation
plants would reduce the load of landfill sites.
Two analyst of QCI, Kovidh Dhyani and Jasleen Singh Malhi made the
participants aware about different schemes and programmes regarding the ODF certification. They
said that the programme has been designed to achieve pre- determined objectives
by the end of 2019.
